"With bargain rates and low- profile surroundings,
local studios have been able to lure top acts away from Manhattan
facilities. In Long Island, musicians "have the freedom
to be on their own, like the old Woodstock days," says
Jim Sabella, owner of Sabella Recording Studio in Roslyn
Heights. "They can hole up and record and not be bothered
. . . Popular bands such as Marcy Playground (who scored
a hit with "Sex And Candy"), Edna's Goldfish and
Deer Park's Nine Days all made records at Sabella's location."
