Being
a blues rock record, the focus was obviosly on the guitars. So we spent
most of our time experimenting with diffrent guitar sounds during overdubs.
Guitar Pete tracked all of his guitars in the control room. And we found
that if we cranked the control room level enough, if would feedback into
the pickups and give him some kickin sustain. We used alot of diffrent microphones
and set-ups on the guitars, but when all is said and done, a plain old shure
57 straight up on a Marshall cabinet is fantastic. There's definately something
to be said about simplicity. We did however use a Pultec Tube EQ on the
Guitars to give them some more balls. This particular song has a ping pong
delay on the guitars from our Eventide H-3000. Another point of interest
was the lead vocals. Again we used a trusty Nuemann microphone, some tube
EQ from a Pultec and an LA-3a. On a final mix note, we used the Neumann
2254 compressors on the main stereo bus.
Charlie Giordano appears on most of the album (including this song)
playing Hammond.
