You've probably heard some pretty cool stories about CUBASE or PRO-TOOLS
and how it's an invaluable tool for an Engineer's tool belt. Well here
is a perfect example.
Realising the importance of being prepared to record at a big studio,
the guys from Drift did a small pre-production version of Kick The Cat
(on CUBASE) and wound up with a great vocal track. After unsuccessfully
attempting to re-create the exact feel of the previos vocal in the studio,
we decided to just use the pre-production version. Sync up the computer,
dump it to 24track, run it through some PULTEC tube EQs, add some crazy
DISTRESSOR compression and PRESTO!! You've got your vocal.
The perfect mix of new and vintage gear.
By itself the digital vocal would sound thin. But run it through some
tubes and dump it to a 2inch 24track STUDER and you've got something to
work with.
