A Brief Description:
Pop/Alternative Date And Duration: The Knockout Drops recorded and mixed 13 songs in 3 Months Starting in September of 1997 Album: "Rage Like The Sun" can be found on The Knockout Drop's album "Killed By The Lights" Production: A recording studio is certainly different than the world of live performance. After truly hearing your songs (probably for the first time) under the microscope, you'll sometimes find that your part (melodically or rhythmically) doesn't work with your bandmates. And it's important to be able to adapt and re-arange parts in the studio. Such was the case in this particular Knockout Drops' song, "Rage Like The Sun". After finding some big problems in the rhythm section, it was decided to go back to basics and hear the song as it was in it's bear bones infant stage; accoustic guitar and vocals. The song definately had tons of hit potential. It was now, just a matter of building a strong rhythmic foundation underneath. It's essential (in pop music) to make sure the Drums and Bass match up and lock, which is often times, a difficult task. There must be a willingness to change. And after some hard work and a small mutiny, there was a revalation deep in the bowels of the rhythm section. "WOW, THIS PLAYING TOGETHER STUFF REALLY WORKS!" In any case, all worked out in the end. We got a strong performance from the rhythm section, some great guitar parts, and some catchy lyrics and melodies. But don't take my word for it, check it out yourself. Additional: Appearing on this song is Sid McGuiness (guitarist Late Show with David Letterman) on the lap steel guitar. |
